5 Tips to Deal with Insomnia
Do you suffer from insomnia or have sleeping problems? Ahh … welcome to the team, because today I’ll share what I’ve been doing to make my nights better!
My head doesn’t stop thinking and it will pop everything you can imagine. I can easily stay awake until 3 am or sometimes even more just… thinking, checking my phone, writing, checking my phone again, drinking water. I’ll do everything apart of sleeping, of course!
Guess what, it’s unbelievable how I manage to chat with myself once I lay my head on the bed. I’ll remember things I have to do that of course, I can’t do them at that moment and then I usually forget about them.. argh! I’ll have thousand of ideas on what to write about and sometimes, even full sentences will pop up to my mind. And all of this thoughts will keep me awake and tormenting me.
As a consequence, my mornings are also tough! My body gets tired, it takes me time to wake up, it seems that I have no energy and as a consequence, my mornings don’t work out well! It seems to be an endless cycle, right? Because you know that probably the next night everything will be the same!
The good news is that they don’t have to!! The process to reach your goal might not be so simple, as we have to re-educate our body, but neither is it impossible! I have learned a technique that has helped me a lot to regulate my body! It has also helped me get rid of the 50,000 thoughts that pop into my head, clearing my mind and relaxing more! So I decided to share it with you. To be honest, it’s not the only thing I do. I need to complete all these 5 tips for my night be quite successful!
So dear insomnia, please leave us alone!

Lay down at least 30 minutes earlier!
It sounds cheesy, but it makes a lot of difference. Your body need time to relax and low the adrenaline from the day. This time will be useful for you to give the time it needs to understand that it is time to sleep! You can use it to have a nice tea, meditate, be grateful for your day, read a book or anything that will not stimulate your mind too much!
Stipulate how much time you will take giving a last sneak peak to your phone!
If you are like me and end up falling back to your phone, because you can’t sleep, high five! The phones are our worst enemies! Besides stimulating our head to keep thinking, their light won’t let our mind relax and get to ‘night mode’! So, have 10, 15 minutes or whatever time you think it takes your last sneak peak! After that, set it to charge and forget about it! If possible, place it away from your bed, so you don’t take the risk of giving an extra check! =)
Have a notebook and pen on your bedside table and create a journal!
Everyday, before bedtime, write everything that comes into your mind. It can be anything: a thought, something you can not forget, an idea or just a chat you are having with yourself. This tip is precious, I swear! It will help empty those thousands of thoughts that keep floating in our minds! Ahh and one more thing! Do this after you turn off your phone. This way, all the stimulation we gave to the mind, will be on paper instead of wandering through our heads!
Fit some exercises to your schedule. It can be an outdoor walk, some exercises you can do with a mobile app or even go to the gym. The important thing is to move your body!
Have a bedtime routine!
It is important for our body to have a routine at night. The more times you repeat the process, the more your body understands that, that is normal and that’s what it takes to sleep! Over time, you will feel predisposed and your mind will function better!
