6 Habit Changes to Pursuit Happiness and Simplicity in Life
For a long time, the competitive way of living has bothered me in Brazil. Make someone feel different because of the car they have, the neighborhood they live, the brand they wear, if they were chubby, short, skinny … it was something that really made me feel strange.
I believe that everyone has the right to live as it wishes and the best they can. Not everyone is born with the same opportunities. However, that doesn’t mean that everyone cannot have the same opportunities. The sun certainly shines for everyone and it is up to you, how to make the best of it!
In this past year, I got a lot out of myself, learned a lot and intensified 6 habits that I already had in Brazil, but that I wouldn’t always follow them. I believe that they are essential for my life today and I hope to contribute in helping you achieve the simpler lifestyle.
Remembering that simplicity doesn’t mean that it is necessary to give up comfort, well being and the things that we like and makes us happy. We are talking about the habits that are often installed in our day to day life that don’t allow us to see things differently!
Give Your Time to Others
Nowadays, giving your time is precious and it makes an incredible difference to share it with others. People are used to that gifts solve things, that a WhatsUp massage clarifies everything. However, they are forgeting how much a tight hug, a silence side by side or a laugh until you cry feels.
The best memories we normally have are from shared moments. Moreover, this is only possible when we are willing to split our time and simply live! One of the big differences I see here in Finland with Brazil is that people do not breathe work all the time. They separate their time to enjoy. And that makes an incredible difference in our daily life!
When we open our hearts and see that there are many other important things that need our attention, relationships improve, our days improve and we prioritize what makes us happy!
The Judgmental Look
Using the same short on different occasions won’t hurt anyone. You do not need to have a different outfit for each photo if what you have is perfect for the moment. It’s not a problem as well to borrow from a friend or buy it from a second hand! By the way, have you seen the thrift shopping I’ve done here?
It is not necessary to have 5 cars in the garage or to change them every year either. The same with the mobile phones that become disposable in a very short time and many other things that serve as examples.
Not having the latest fashion model doesn’t make you less than others. On the contrary. It often makes you more aware of how we can use our money and have a better relationship with it. Consumption can lead to a disorder if mismanaged. It is necessary to learn to have a healthy relationship with money, both for those who have it to spare and to those who work hard to have their salary at the end of the month.
Not to mention that besides saving and getting rid of the rampant consumption, you will be contributing (a lot) with the environment. Think about it and don’t care much about the judgmental looks! Those who people stare at you from top to tow. These looks won’t define what you are inside. They’ll better say more what those people have to offer!
A Man is Known by the Company he Keeps
Who has not heard this saying in life? Everyone, right? In Brazil, it can have several meanings and maybe, reflecting on it, I think it can sound differently anywhere. In general, it’s a way of differing the people you hang out with. But have you ever thought about how this selection people is done?
People usually label others because they don’t follow the same standards as them. It is as if everyone had to have the same level of material goods, go to the same places and live a similar lifestyle to fit the patterns of that circle of friends. And things shouldn’t be like that! At least not in my way of thinking!
It’s very stressful to have to always seem like we need to please others, right? Well then my dear, this doesn’t have to exist. When we see people for what they are and not for what they have or wear and accept the differences, everything else becomes small. Because the important thing here is not what the person has, but what the person is! What sets her apart is the values she carries, the love she has to give, the light she emanates and the friendship she has to share!
Who has heard that when you disappoint yourself, the disappointment is actually ours and not with the person who did something to us? If you’ve never heard of it, let me explain it. People disappoint us because we are the ones who put expectations into them. But these are our expectations, because we probably would not do whatever it was the same way.
So forgive whatever it is that needs to be forgiven. The good it brings is for you and no one else. Don’t allow it to harm your life, your way of living. Each one knows of itself and, more and more life is teaching me that there is no time to keep sorrow. Life takes care of putting people in our lives and she takes care of removing them as well.
Take that big step today. Sit in a quiet place, connect with yourself and find the peace you need within you. Do not wait for the apology, for acknowledgment of an error or anything. Everybody has their cross to bear!
Cultivate Good Thoughts
If there is one thing I strongly believe, it is that our thoughts have an undeniable strength. Everything that we need, is inside our mind and our heart. As simple as that. We can control our entire life through our mind and with it, we get everything we want if we are willing to fight for it.
Nothing will fall free in your lap, but steady your thinking about what you crave and strive to achieve will make all the difference in your life. The more you stick to it, the more things you will achieve. Negativity is very contagious and, therefore, it is necessary to create barriers and mechanisms to keep it out of our way. Moreover, it will always exist. There will always be that person who doesn’t see the good side of the bad thing. So it’s up to you to choose how you want to face life!
Good thoughts feed us, the bad ones consume us up. Which do you prefer to cultivate?
All we Need is to Love
The last, but not least, is to love! When love surrounds us, everything becomes easier. It fills our soul in a way that has no explanation. I truly believe that love transforms and that it’s capable of guiding our lives, making us more comprehensive people with compassion and empathy to others.
It really makes us understand that we cannot do to others what we don’t want for ourselves. Regardless of who it is. Allow yourself to love, allow yourself to be loved. Surround yourself with people who truly love you, who want to see you grow, who are with you in joy in sorrow, in health, and in sickness. More than that, be with people that are with you for you are and not for what you can have.
Besides of being your best friend when seeing a more colorful life. Love has this immense ability to make us see the beauty in small things. Live and love today, don’t leave it for tomorrow!
Do you already practice any of them? What else do you believe it’s important to find balance, to have a simpler and happy lifestyle?
