A Tour to Brisbane
Ohh beautiful Australia! It was so good when I traveled there! Although, I have been many times to Perth, a few to Sydney and, in fact, only once to Brisbane and Melbourne, I think Brisbane was one of the destinations that I remember the most! And yes, there is a big reason for this that I’ll share with you now!
Brisbane is a beautiful city, capital of Queensland just in the east coast of Australia! On that September 3rd, 2010, my flight was fantastic! The crew got along since the beginning and there was one girl from New Zealand that we new each other since training and we even lived in the same building! So that was enough to start our crazy plans of what we would do on our layover!
In Brisbane, there was this company called Jump the Beach Skydive that made skydive from Redcliffe! OMG .. I was too excited and got crazy to jump and gladly, I was not the only one!
Crew that jumped with me!
The night before, I just told my husband (that at the time, he was my fiancee) and no one else! I did not want anyone discouraging me! I needed to focus and I was too anxious already! It was not something Emirates encouraged us in doing. Our seniors knew that the four of us were going and, to be honest, I think that they could have stopped us in some point. But at the end of the day, everything was always at our own risk, so we went for it!
Ah and one important details. We had the option to choose the height, so we decided to go for the highest one which was 14,000 feet (something around 4267.2 meters) and one minute of free fall. It was something that we we doing for the first time, so we had to do it right then! LOL!
Ready to go!
The place was stunning, it was a wonderful bay and our skydive was at the beach! Looking back the photos and the video, takes me back to that day that I can’t even explain the sensation properly! Imagine seeing a continental coast from above? To be able to contemplate nature, with this feeling of endless freedom? I really have no words to describe what that meant to me! I was skydiving for the first time, on the other side of the world, in a wonderful day, with great people! I’m soo grateful to have had such opportunity in doing it!
I am almost sure it was the day I screamed the most in my life! Actually, I feel kind of sorry for my tandem master. I screamed my lungs off since I was still in the airplane! When the door opened, it was when I realized that that was it! I was screaming and laughing like crazy! LOL! If I’m right, we jumped one after another with one minute break for each. I remember we had to do the banana position to jump as that was the proper way of falling! And with the extraordinary coordination that I do not have, I didn’t know if I would shout or make the banana!
Best experience ever!
I have never regretted that day! It was one of the best crazy moments and adventures I’ve ever done! I had the opportunity to jump again in Boituva (a city in Brazil where skydiving is very popular), but my first time will always be the best! Both times were awesome, but I can’t even describe all the adrenaline I felt in Brisbane! I guess that not knowing exactly what to expect is what makes it different!
Cabin Crew prepare for landing!
Unfortunately, the photos are not in a good resolution! They are snaps of the video. But every time I see them, I feel like going back and jumping again! Yep, I’m one of this crazy people who really enjoys an adventure! And for the girls, if I can give you a tip if your are looking forward in skydiving, is take off your earring! Mine were very small and even though, the back of my ears were aching. Is not something you can’t manage and, perhaps, I just felt it afterwards. But the pointy part of it would keep hitting the back part of my ear so, not a big deal, but it’s a good tip haha!
Put on your earphones, turn down the volume – especially if you’re in a public place – and hit play! Hope you enjoy all my shouting here! hehe
