An iPhone for a Good Cause
Last Friday, the 24th, Apple released a new iPhone model for its collection. The iPhone 7 (PRODUCT) RED is a limited edition made in partnership with RED, which works with programs that combat HIV / AIDS.
RED is an organization created in 2006 by singer Bono Vox and Bobby Shriver. They founded it with the desire of paving the way for a new AIDS free generation and to make it easier to more people join the fight against the virus.
Apple has been a partner of the organization for more than 10 years and has other products with RED. According to Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, ‘Since we began working with (RED) 10 years ago, our customers have made a significant impact in fighting the spread of AIDS through the purchase of our products, from the original iPod nano (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition all the way to today’s lineup of Beats products and accessories for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.’
Apple has already raised more than $ 130 million from RED products and with this iPhone 7 special edition, they intend to leverage even more sales to benefit the cause.
The difference of this new model is just it’s color, which comes in a pretty bright red! All other specifications remain the same. It’s already on the market and I found them at their online store here in Europe from € 899 for the normal iPhone 7 and from € 1029 for the iPhone 7 plus!
Part of it’s sales will go straight to the Global Fund, which is a recipient of RED fund and works to accelerate the end of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as epidemics. It uses 100% of the money to finance and distribute medicine to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV; to test new medications and to offer advice to people living with the disease and to prevent it from the new generations.
From the more of 37 million people living with the disease, thousands of them have been transmitted from mother to child. In 2005, more than 1,200 babies were born to the disease every day. Since then, RED has been working to reduce this number as much as possible and today, they are on the 400. RED works financing the programs in many African countries such as Ghana, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Kenya and Zambia .
RED has already raised more than $ 465 million and has been able to contribute to the lives of more than 90 million people! For those who can’t help by buying the phone, there are several other products available, not only from Apple, but from other companies that also work on behalf of them. You can also contribute by donating with your credit card!
More than a mobile, this new iPhone comes with a different energy! It’s so good to know that it will be able to help improve the lives of many people!
