Blog – Expectation x Reality
When I decided to have a blog, I did not have much idea of how my life would be. I thought I would just sit down in front of the computer and write. As simple as that! But in fact, there’s so much behind a blog than just a post!
First I had to learn – by hook or by crook – how to create it. I watched countless videos on YouTube, had the help of people that understood about IT and ran to my hosting and template support several times. It were months until I accepted that it would not be totally perfect and that I would not be able to learn everything before releasing it. My husband once said: ‘Set a date and put it out. If not, you’ll never do it, because it will never be good enough’. He knows me well and he was right. It’s hard for a perfectionist to accept it without ‘suffering’ a little hehe, but what he did was more than necessary and with that, the blog was born!
This was the first step towards another world of learning that, honestly, will not end to soon. I’ve read many other blogs with tips and step-by-step directions on how to develop it, but as simple as it sounds, it’s never as simple when you put into practice. Especially when you’ve never done one before! But I also realized that it is not impossible and gradually, I am getting more knowledge of how things work. I can even say that I have a minimum – but valid – ability with CCS hahaha!
Besides the blog, the social medias also came with the package and they are very peculiar. I dealt with them when I had my company, but it was a very different relationship. I would show my work, post one or two photos a day, when I had time and the followers increased over time. I did not had the pressure in creating an engagement as it sometimes seems to exist in blogs.
At my atelie, it was more natural because the best way to win my customer was with my product. It was how people say: I won them by the stomach. And although I cared about the media and made several campaigns, everything was kind of a consequence!
In the blog it is necessary to have a greater engagement, there are strategies for this and each social medias is very specific. So, I had to give up for the moment at my Youtube channel! It is necessary to take one step at a time, learn to deal with each one and manage to deliver the 3 posts that I proposed per week. Because besides all this, I’m still learning to work with the SEO (Search Engine Optimization), edit photos and create a feed in Instagram that pleases me, plus many other things!
When I thought about a blog, I wanted a space to share a little of everything with you. But like everything I do, I can not just do it for fun!
I do it for real and I think that this is why my expectations were a little different from reality! Doing and working on a blog is a lot of work. It has not been easy to develop content for 3 times a week, plus one – and sometimes two – post for the platform in portuguese Brazilians Around the World, with my own photos, good content and that is of people’s interest!
An in fact, I still do not know exactly what you like to read! I decided to stay with Lifestyle, just because I did not want to stick to a single niche, but at the same time, it’s such a wide field that sometimes I get a bit lost! Through the analytic (which I am also learning about it), I have seen which posts are the most read, but the top three on the list are on totally different topics. Hahaha I guess that slowly I will find a way to write more about what appears at the top!
I’ve always been self-taught. I’m reading, watching videos and learning everything by myself. But now, in addition to that, I have a sweet person giving me a huge support! Dani from The Writing Shed does personal coaching and has guided me a lot to find the right course for the blog!
I already have thousands of texts to read, plus a book that she sent me and all her support! She is super nice and I really recommend her! For sure, she will help you with whatever you need! And she doesn’t stick only with the coaching, she also gave me the tip of a a girl that helps out with the technological part! So her work is very complete!
I believe that with a little more time, my expectation will become reality and I will be able to do everything with more naturally and with less pressure! Not always the initial reality is how we wish and it has been hard work here, but I’m loving it!
Because, in addition to connecting with you, getting closer to my family and friends, it has taught me things that I never thought I would be interested in learning! Especially because, even though it seems like, I’m not that technological! Haha
So, taking advantage of the space, I would be soo but soo grateful if you could help me! Tell me, what would you like to read and see around here? Don’t be shy, open your heart and tell me everything hahaha
