Learn to Decorate a Birthday Cake
Celebrating my birthday is always fun!! As I’m still on the birthday mood, I decided to share with you how I decorated my cake!
My cake was so praised when I posted the photo on my social medias (BTW… do you follow me already? hehe check my Instagram and Facebook), that I thought you would love to see the video we made when I was putting it up! I’ve used a simple recipe and in another opportunity, I’ll post it here for you! Today we will focus on the decoration and how you can also make your beautiful cake at home!
First of all, choose the recipe you like. I chose a delicious chocolate batter with a traditional Brazilian sweet called brigadeiro for the filling! I love to keep it moist, so I used a creamy sauce too! When it comes to pastry, having a scale is the key to accuracy. So I divided the batter in three exact amounts and baked them separately to make them look nice!
In the same pan you baked your cake or in another one that is higher (best if it’s at least 8cm high), you will set up the cake to press it! Since, I did not have a single pan to do this, I adapted the two I had and it worked well! I always like to let the cake rest overnight with a weight on top at the refrigerator. With this, the dough will absorb all that creamy sauce, making it stay firm and moist!
After that, choose the topping you like and get started! Remember that the topping needs to have a firm consistency. You can use whipped cream, buttercream or even the soft brigadeiro, as I used for the filling.
To paint it, you must use gel food coloring. You will also find liquid ones, but these are not recommended for toppings as they can soften it! You can chose to do it in one color or make it gradient as I did and used a simple closed star decorating tip that I bought at the supermarket! I don’t have all my pastry things anymore, so I had to work with what I had! This shows us that we don’t need to have professional things to make beautiful cakes at home!
