Answering the curiosity from here… do you know that besides Finnish, Swedish is also an official language?? Let me explain it to you. Before Finland became part of the Russian Empire in 1809, they were part of Sweden. When the Russians arrived, they kept the Swedish, even the Finnish already existed. After their independence in 1917, there was a national movement to make the Finnish official. With that, the government decided that both would keep the same status as official. The only place in Finland where it’s not official is at the Åland Island. Today, only 5% of the population speak Swedish as their first language.
